William "Billy" Meyer Obituary

William “Bill” Meyer passed away into the arms of our Lord on November 20, at Elk Ridge Assisted living in Perham, Minnesota.

Bill was born on March 22, 1927 at his home to his parents Ed and Ida Meyer.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church where he attended services his entire life.  On September 1, 1948, he was united in marriage with Delaine Janke.  Their marriage lasted 69 years until Delaine’s passing in early 2018.  Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Rosemary, who was the apple of her father’s eye.

Throughout their 69 year marriage, Bill and Delaine made their home in Butler Township establishing a successful dairy farm.  They were avid travelers crossing the United States and even traveled to Australia to observe agricultural practices in that country. They were devoted Minnesota Twins fans, attending countless games. They were a devoted couple, rarely seen apart.

Bill was an active public servant – serving on the Butler Township Board, numerous cooperative boards as well as a devoted Church servant serving on numerous boards and teaching Sunday School.  He was a collector of John Deere memorabilia and on more than one occasion was seen in parades driving his prized tractor – a 1949 John Deere Model A.     Following semi-retirement (because Bill never really retired), he took up woodworking making countless toy barns for children of relatives and friends and donating others to fundraisers

Bill was a true gentleman.  Quiet, unassuming and slow to anger – he was kind to everyone, generous with his time and talents and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. When help was needed by friends or family – he was always there to quietly lend a hand.  He will be missed by his family and the numerous friends and neighbors whose lives he touched.

Preceding Bill in death include his wife, Delaine, brother Buster, sisters: Adeline Merrill and Ardel Berzenia.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Rosemary (Elman) Becker; grandchildren: Kimberly (Dustin)Torgerson, Todd (Tracy) Becker and Craig Becker; great-grandchildren: Harper and Waytt Torgerson and Haley, Hannah and Brandt Becker; brothers Jerome and Edgar Meyer, sister-in-law, Karen Meyer; many other relatives and a host of friends.
