William Glenn Johnson, known as “Bill” to his family and “Will” to many of his friends, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Blaine, Minnesota, on April 4, 2025. He was 80 years old.
Bill was born on May 1, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Wyman “Jack” and Phyllis (Rankin) Johnson. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Jack’s hometown of Henning, Minnesota, where Bill would grow up. He attended Henning Public School from kindergarten through graduation, proudly earning his diploma with the Class of 1962.
Following high school, Bill briefly served in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged due to an inherited eye condition. He went on to attend Dakota Business College in Fargo, North Dakota, and later worked for Wright Tree Service. He eventually moved to Minneapolis, where he found a long-term career with Packaging Corporation of America, remaining there until his retirement.
In 1984, Bill married Vicky Underhill. Though their union did not produce children, they shared several years together before parting ways.
A man of many interests, Bill found joy in the outdoors through fishing and hunting. He also had a creative side, enjoying woodworking, music, acrylic painting, and cooking. Above all, he held a special place in his heart for his beloved cockatiel, Popeye.
Bill is survived by his sister Betty (LeRoy) Collins and their daughter Christina Collins; brother-in-law James Maday; nephews Michael and Charles Maday; and his dear and devoted friend Kimberly Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Phyllis Johnson; his half-sister, Harla Maday; and his former wife, Vicky Underhill.
Bill will be remembered for his quiet kindness, creativity, and the deep connections he maintained with those closest to him.
