Virginia Mae Melin was born on Jan 9, 1956 to the late Vernon and Marlys (Westberg) Melin in Willmar, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock Minnesota. Virginia graduated from Willmar High School. She then worked as a nursing assistant caring for people. She attended college in Willmar until she earned her LPN degree 1983.
Virginia married Ron McCleary and this union was blessed with three children, Ryan, Jamie, and Tanya. On August 29th, 1987 Virginia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Peter Hagen. In this union Virginia gained a stepdaughter, Jackie. Together they raised their children in Henning area.
Virginia spent her career as a nurse caring for and loving people. She first worked at the Henning Nursing Home for over 20 years. Virginia then accepted a nursing position at the VA Hospital in Sturgis, South Dakota and worked there for 6 years before transferring to the VA Clinic in Alexandria where she finished her career doing home visits caring for area Veterans.
In Virginia’s leisure time she found joy spending time with family and friends. Other things that brought her happiness were fishing and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was always up for a road trip with no destination as long as it involved Pete.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Peter Hagen, her children, Ryan (Rachael); Jamie (Tonia); Tanya (Reed) and Jackie, 16 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, 1 sister, Marsha (Greg) and 2 brothers Bill (Connie), Marvin (Donna) and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Marlys Melin.
Virginia had a long, courageous fight with cancer. On the morning of April 19th, 2021 with her family by her side at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, MN she passed away.
Please join us in celebrating Virginia’s life on Saturday April 24th at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Henning, MN. 1:00pm viewing with a 2:00pm service with burial and luncheon following.
