Violet Luella Dague was born on October 19, 1939, in Chamberlain, South Dakota. She is the oldest of 5 children. Her parents were the late Willard Earl and Agnes Lilly (Swenson) Dague. Violet was baptized in Alexandria, Minnesota. She lived in South Dakota until she was 13 years old. The family then moved to Poplar, Minnesota for 4 years, and later made their home 9 miles north of Oylen, Minnesota. Violet graduated from Pine River High School with the class of 1957. While in high school, she was employed at Hartz Supermarket in Wadena.
On February 14, 1959, Violet was united in marriage with Gary Menton Dahlvang in Oylen, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Darwin, Darrell, Juanita, and Dean. Violet worked various jobs while raising her children, which included many years at Wadena High School. After her children graduated high school, she drove truck with Gary for 17 years before retiring. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; playing Legos, board games, card games and reading them numerous books.
Violet’s hobbies included sewing, reading, teaching Sunday School, and being with her family.
On August 26, 2023, Violet passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at 83 years of age at Lakewood Health System in Staples, Minnesota. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Violet in death were her parents, Willard and Agnes Dague; nephew, John Werk; brother-in-law, Charles White.
Violet is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Gary Dahlvang of Verndale; children: Darwin (Lisa) Dahlvang of Eads, Tennessee; Darrell Dahlvang of Verndale; Juanita (Daryl) Tumberg of Verndale; Dean Dahlvang of Verndale; 8 grandchildren: Tasha, Rory, Rodney, Darla, Mitchell, Destiny, Adam, and April; and 12 great-grandchildren; Siblings: Donna White of Verndale; Judy (Chuck) Bimberg of Verndale; Alice Murphy of Little Rock, Arkansas; Willard (Kathy) Dague of Ramsey, Minnesota; many relatives, a host of friends and a loving church family.
