Vernon Wiederich Obituary

Due to COVID-19 a memorial service will be held when in-person gatherings are possible. A private family graveside service was held for Vernon Wiederich age 72, of Hewitt, Minnesota with Fr. Aaron Kuhn officiating. The pallbearers were Mark Wiederich, Chris Wiederich, Todd Wiederich, Katelyn Wiederich,  Hailey Wiederich, Michael Wiederich, Mitchell Wiederich. The honorary pallbearers were Devan Wiederich, Cameron Wiederich, Zack Wiederich,  Caden Wiederich, Michelle Doepke and Mike Ruckmar.  Vernon was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Wadena, Minnesota.

Vernon Richard Wiederich was born on October 4, 1947 in Hendricks, Minnesota. His parents were the late Herman and Iva (Crawford) Wiederich.  Vernon grew up in the Sebeka, Minnesota area. He attended Sebeka High School and received his diploma from Wadena.

Vernon proudly served in the Minnesota Army National Guard from February 28, 1967 to January 18, 1973.

On July 22, 1967 Vernon was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginger” Kern at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena, Minnesota.  Their marriage was blessed with three sons: Mark, Chris and Todd. They resided in the Wadena area.

Vernon worked various jobs until 1972, when he was employed with the Wadena School District as a custodian.  He later became a Building and Grounds Supervisor at Northwest Technical College, which was later a part of M State, putting in over 37 years of service before retiring in 2009.

Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, farming, horseback riding, watching youth and high school sports, playing cards, golfing and going to the casino.

On April 26, 2020 Vernon passed away at his home in Hewitt, Minnesota at 72 years of age.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Vernon in death were his parents, Herman and Iva; siblings: Herman Jr., Kenneth, Helen, Donna, John, Earl, Robert, Howard, Donald and Shirley.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginger” of Hewitt; sons: Mark (Cathy) Wiederich of Lake Elmo; Chris (Diana) Wiederich of Fergus Falls; and Todd (Tiffany) Wiederich of Hewitt; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Hank “Henry” Wiederich of Brownton; many other relatives and a host of friends.
