Veita Lou Corbin Obituary

Veita Lou Corbin, age 98, died peacefully on January 22, 2020 at Serenity Living Solutions in Sebeka, Minnesota.

Veita Lou was born on February 16, 1921 in Holland, Minnesota to Harry and Vora (James) Corbin. Her family moved to South Dakota for a short time but then settled in Sebeka, Minnesota on her grandfather’s farm when she was 11 years old.

She graduated from Sebeka High School in 1939. After high school, she attended Bemidji State University, receiving her teaching degree. She taught in Effie, White Earth, Two Harbors and Staples, all in Minnesota before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota to teach second grade. Later she moved to St. Louis Park, Minnesota becoming a librarian in the St. Louis Park School District. Upon retiring from teaching she had a house built in Sebeka by her brother Duane and his crew in 1982.

Veita Lou was very active in the Sebeka Methodist Church as a librarian and United Methodist Women Group, the Wadena Historical Society and Cat Creek Missionary Society. She enjoyed traveling: taking trips to every continent except for Asia. She also enjoyed gardening and making quilts with her mother.

In 2012 she moved into the Heritage House Assisted Living (now known as Serenity Living Solutions) in Sebeka, where she resided until her death.

Preceding Veita Lou in death are her parents: Harry and Vora; and her brother, Duane.

Veita Lou is survived by her sister-in-law: Ardyth Corbin; Nephews: Jim (Linda) Corbin; Jerry (Elke) Corbin; and Darrell (Janine) Corbin; nieces: Connie Block; Carol (Mark) Moeller; Donna (Chris) Dissmore; and Grace Kessler; a host of great-nephews and nieces, great-great-nephews and nieces, and many friends.
