Thomas "Tom" McMurphy

Thomas “Tom” Charles (Habiger) McMurphy, age 70, of Wadena, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home at the Comfort Care Cottages in Wadena and under the care of Moments Hospice.

Thomas Charles McMurphy was born on August 11, 1955, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to George and Bonnie (Johnson) Habiger. He attended and graduated from St. Cloud High School before enlisting in the Army for basic training.

Upon returning home he began working at Finger Hut in St. Cloud where he met Melinda McMurphy and fell in love. The couple were united in marriage in 1995 and were blessed with two sons, Dylan and Miles. They made their home in St. Cloud for a few years, and Tom worked in a mechanic shop repairing motorcycles. The family moved to the Sebeka area where they lived on a farm for four years and worked at RDO before moving into town. His health then declined leaving him disabled, but that didn’t temper his spirit or his hard-working soul.

Tom enjoyed working on motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson’s, and woodworking with Diamond Willow wood. He was a great storyteller and always loved spending time with family and friends. Tom liked to play the harmonica and watching all genres of movies.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents George and Bonnie.

Deeply loved, Tom’s passing will be mourned by his sons Dylan (Kim) McMurphy of Menahga and Miles (Alissa) McMurphy of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren; his ex-wife Melinda McMurphy of Menahga and many lifelong friends.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held for Tom at a later date.
