Chief Petty Officer Roger Dale Stillman was born in Cleghorn, Wisconsin during the Great Armistice Day blizzard of 1940 and died peacefully at home May 10, 2024.
Roger joined the Navy at age 18, serving his country for 20 years. Requested by Admirals House and Zumoldt, he survived 2 tours in Vietnam, being awarded a bronze star with an oak leaf cluster.
While stationed in Missouri he completed his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, putting it to good use, working for Ron Johnson Steel Engraving, supervising for 16 years.
Throughout his entire life, Roger loved the outdoors. Whether camping with his family or Boy Scout Troop 384, he liked it all. Bow hunting deer, duck or pheasant hunting with his springers Babe and Kaz, Fishing for Walleyes on many of Minnesota’s lakes and the Columbia River, and elk hunting in Colorado, to name just a few.
Roger loved the unusual colors and grain patterns of wood. Making Joleen many pieces of furniture. Her favorite is the ladybug apothecary cabinet. Most recently he began working on Intarsia scroll saw projects up in his shop.
Preceded in death by his mother Lucille, half-sister Millie Hansen. Ex wife Julie and their son Russell.
Survived by wife Joleen and stepson Jon Ruane. Sons Scott Stillman and Bob Stillman. Half-sister Verna Sunday, Niece Dawn (Tom) Borgstrom nephews Pat and Jeff Hansen, along with many other family and friends.
In keeping with Rogers wishes, a funeral will not be held. Private interment will take place Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
Roger was my soul mate and our best friend. “Fluffy” we will miss you forever.
