Roger William Bajumpaa passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, July 26, at the age of 81.
Roger was born on November 17, 1944, in Butler Township to Ulias and Elise (Maijala) Bajumpaa. He was baptized on December 10, 1944, and confirmed on May 4, 1958. Roger graduated from New York Mills High School in 1962 and proudly served in the National Guard.
On August 22, 1964, he married Janet White. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service, welcoming two children, Donald and Rajan, before making their home in Paddock Township.
Roger was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham, Minnesota, where he was a Stephen Minister, church greeter, and served in a variety of leadership roles. He also providing transportation to those needing rides to medical appointments and faithfully supported Ruby’s Pantry. His willingness to lend a helping hand touched many lives and brought him joy.
Roger loved spending time outdoors. Whether he was hunting, cutting wood, working around the farm, or taking a ride on his four-wheeler, he found contentment exploring the countryside he called home. He especially enjoyed sharing those moments with family and friends who stopped by knowing he would greet them with a strong cup of coffee and the phrase, “Make yourself at home, my house is your house.”
Roger was known for his independence, strong will, and quiet strength. Those who knew him best will remember how proud he was to be a “stubborn Finlander” who had “SISU.”
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Ulias and Elise Bajumpaa; his sisters, Margaret Houtkooper, Mildred "Millie" Samuelson, and Marion Seann; his nephew, Martin Papenfuss; and his great-grandson, Henry Sladek.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet Bajumpaa; his children, Donald (Karen) Bajumpaa and Rajan (Monty) Shore; his grandchildren, Elisha (Tom) Sladek, Drew (Taylor) Bajumpaa, Katrina (Hunter) Hastings, Sam Shore, and Hannah Shore; and his great granddaughter, Noah Bajumpaa.
Roger will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family, his unwavering faith, and his lifelong commitment to serving others. His faith and love for the outdoors will continue to live on through his family.
