Rick was an amazing man! He was born September 3rd, 1957, to two very terrific people, William “Bill” and Amelia (Ament) Schmitz. He was born the 7th of 14 children. Of the 14, Rick is the 4th lost, however he is not lost, he is right where he is supposed to be. He is walking with The Lord. There is no pain or sorrow, only Joy and he is loving every step.
Rick Married his “other half,” Ronda (Rossner), on June 25th, 1983, and they spent 38 wonderful years together. They would not trade one moment of it. Ronda often joked, “Nobody is perfect except God, and that’s why He gave you me!” Rick loved just being with Ronda. It never mattered what they were doing, whether mowing the lawn or going for a ride to look for deer, they just loved being together. They had what many people never experience, they truly were “Forever as One.”
Rick and Ronda had 3 children, Josh, Lukas, and Jessica (Matt) Smith; they also had 3 grandchildren: Amelia, Hugh, and Sawyer Smith. Rick taught his children many things, foremost among them being that if you didn’t put his tools back clean and where you got them from, you may not use them again. Ronda also knew that she was the exception to that rule, and simply left his tools “somewhere” and the drawer was left open, so he knew he had a game of search and find ahead. Rick loved kids, especially before they could talk back. He could be found sleeping in his recliner or working outside, the grandkids either on his lap or following close behind grandpa.
While he is gone from our sight, his presence will be forever felt. Life on this earth is what you make of it. Rick and his family have chosen to see the beauty and embrace all of God’s blessings and trials. As a family they truly believe that God has a plan for each of us, and He will lift us up when we stumble, dry our tears when we cry, and He gives us sweet memories to sustain us until we are together again.
Rick was preceded in death and has been reunited with: His parents Bill and Amelia; his sister Sharon; his sister Carol and her husband Tom Richter; his brother Randy; his brother-in-law Bruce Larsen; his in-laws (second parents) Dean and Jessie Rossner; many other family members and loved ones.
Rick has left behind on this Earth to celebrate his life: his other half, Ronda; 3 wonderful children: Joshua, Lukas, and Jessica (Matt) Smith; 3 amazing grandchildren: Amelia, Hugh, and Sawyer (Smith); sisters: Debbie Larsen, Cindy Schmitz, Kristy (Joe) Macho, Lisa (Carter) Olson, and Wendy (Brian) Harding; brothers: Mike Schmitz, Mark (Jackie) Schmitz, Kevin (Jacki) Schmitz, Alan (Koni) Schmitz, Steve (Randi) Schmitz; sister-in-law Denise Schmitz; brothers-in-law: Dwayne (Sharon) Rossner; and Randy (Lynn) Rossner; a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials, as they will be used on items Rick enjoyed in life.
