Richard “Dick” Meyer passed away on January 15th surrounded by love, leaving behind a life rooted in family, laughter, and the simple moments he held close.
Dick proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran and carried that pride with quiet honor throughout his life.
Dick met his wife Donna when he was working in Minneapolis. They got married at Central Lutheran church downtown. He wanted to raise his family out of the cities and landed in Menahga since they needed a barber.
Dick found happiness outdoors — fishing, hunting, sitting outside, and spending time with family. He loved sharing stories over a cold beer and was known by many through his years cutting hair and owning his barber shop in Menahga, where conversation and connection were just as important as the haircut. From coffee hour to happy hour, people were naturally drawn to Dick and his easygoing nature.
One of Dick’s favorite places was his three-season porch, hand built by his sons and hand painted by his grandchildren. There, he liked to see deer pass by and bird watching. He also enjoyed having a bonfire, playing cribbage and euchre, sitting at his cabin, listening to Ernie Tubb, hanging out with his brother Steve, and telling stories about his life.
Dick especially treasured traveling with Kristine and Donna, with some of his favorite trips being to Belize and Mexico. No matter where life took him, Dick valued being with the people he loved most.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted spouse of 56 years, Donna Meyer; his children, Kevin (Kelly) Meyer , Gregory (Jennifer) Meyer, and Kristine Meyer; and his grandchildren, Montana Ashland (Meyer) and her spouse Mike, Hunter Meyer, Sydney Meyer, Remi Meyer, and Maxum Meyer. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Rush Ashland and Ren Ashland, who brought him immense joy.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
Dick’s memory will live on through the generations he loved so deeply and the many moments shared with family and friends.
