Philip Nicholas Schmitz, age 91, of St. Cloud, Minnesota (formerly Wadena, Minnesota), passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
Philip Nicholas Schmitz was born on January 8, 1933, in Leaf River Township in Wadena County, Minnesota. His parents were the late Hilarius P. and Katherine (Simmons) Schmitz. Philip grew up on the family farm in Blue Grass Township. He served honorably in the United States Army from January 19, 1956, until March 24, 1958. Philip was employed with Rentz Trucking as a truck driver in Wadena. For 32 years, Philip resided in Wisconsin where he was employed with Mercury Marine as an assembly line worker for 23 years. Philip then made his home in Wadena in 2006. He enjoyed archery hunting and was a race car fan where his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt.
Preceding Philip in death were his parents: Hilarius P. and Katherine Schmitz; daughter, Laura Schmitz; sisters, Rose Roche; Christine Wingum; Kathy Payne; Julin Van Roekel; Ceal Donkin; brothers: William Schmitz; Ben Schmitz; Frank Schmitz; brothers-in-law: Clarence Bristlin; Abner Roche; Frank Wilngum; Wilmar Hanniner; Bob Rentz; Bob Monroe; Bill Van Roekel; Hal Donkin; Ray Ellingworth; sisters-in-law: Sharon Schmitz; Joyce Schmitz; Jan Schmitz, Pat Schmitz.
Philip is survived by his sisters: Frances Monroe of Menahga, MN; Ione Sudenga of Tigard, OR; Susan Ellingworth of New York Mills, MN; brothers: Joe Schmitz of Verndale, MN; Larry Schmitz of Fridley, MN; Peter Schmitz of Brooklyn Park, MN; sister-in-law Carol Lenk of Wadena, MN; many other relatives and a host of friends.
