Myrna Kay Moench, age 87, of Wadena, Minnesota, and Milpitas, California, passed away on March 23, 2026, at Greenwood Connections in Menahga, Minnesota, with family there to say goodbye.
Born on March 11, 1939, in Wadena (Oylen), Minnesota, Myrna was the daughter of Bob and Ruby (Rathe) Tubandt. She grew up in Wadena on a farm north of town.
She married Gordon on September 23, 1957, and was soon off to Navy life—beginning in Alameda, California, with assignments in Coronado, California; New Iberia, Louisiana; Imperial Beach, California; and Milpitas, California. During Gordon’s six-month deployments to the Pacific Region, she ran a tight ship while caring for their two boys.
After leaving the Navy, she and Gordon returned to Wadena and bought their dream home, which she missed dearly during her illness. Myrna was passionate about her friends and loved the simple things in life, like taking a ride in the country. She adored her husband, Gordon, and together they grew in their Christian faith. She will be greatly missed.
Myrna is survived by her husband, Gordon; children, Tim (Dannette) Moench of Wadena, Minnesota, and Dwayne (Elena) Moench of Rice, Minnesota; grandchildren, Miles (Liz) Moench of Whiteman, Missouri, Ava (Peter) Moe of Longmont, Colorado, and Olivia Moench of Shreveport, Louisiana; siblings, Joyce Duncan of Yuba City, California, Bobby (Jan) Tubandt of Rochester, Minnesota, and Donny (Dianne) Tubandt of Yuba City, California; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Vivian, who were a great joy to her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Wadena Alliance Church at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior.
Burial will take place at the Wadena Cemetery.
