Mike J Peters passed away on August 4, 2025, in Wadena, Minnesota.
Born on February 4, 1953, to Martin and Vergie (Erickson) Peters, Mike graduated from Wadena High School in the Class of 1971. A lifelong public servant, he dedicated over 30 years to law enforcement as a police officer for the cities of Menahga and Wadena. Mike also served his community as the Red Flag, Green Flag instructor and was proud to take on the role of McGruff, helping teach safety and awareness to kids in Wadena. After retiring from the force, Mike continued to serve his community through his work with the City of Wadena.
Mike married Liz on March 9, 1976. They raised three kids in Wadena, enjoying family time, camping trips, and sports games together.
Known for his witty sense of humor, kind heart, and steady calm, Mike had a knack for lightening the mood. He loved soft rock—especially Air Supply—and found comfort in simple pleasures like blueberry treats, Folger’s coffee, and a flannel shirt. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting, and exploring National Parks out west. A talented woodworker, he put great care and thought into every project and gift.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Bob, Craig, and Mark; and his brother-in-law Gary Pearson.
He is survived by his wife, Liz, who will miss him deeply; children: Shawn Peters, Eric (Joslyn) Peters, and Angie (Don) Ealy; grandchildren: Ashley (Jackson), Kayla, Nick, Delainey, Quincy, Isaac, Grace and Emmett; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a wide circle of friends.
Mike’s life was defined by service, love, integrity—and a great sense of humor.
