Michael James Minten 59 of Butler passed away at his home June 10, 2024.
Mike was born February 3, 1965 in Perham. His farthest move was from the hospital to the farm, because after that the farthest he moved was when his parents built a new house in front of the old farm house. Mike had a never ending love for dairy farming, he took over the family herd in December of 1982, his senior year of high school.
Set up by friends in October of 1991, his bachelor days were numbered and a little over a year later Mike and Jen were engaged and married the following summer on July 3 1993.
After many years of waiting to start their family to be the 4th generation on the family farm, they were ecstatic to welcome William Joseph. Not wanting Billy to be an only child Mike convinced Jen to try again and much to their surprise triplets James Raymond, Grace Marie and Benjamin Michael were added to the family, the chaos began. 6 years later they were blessed with Macey Eleanor and 2 years later Lucille Isabelle to finish out the seats in the minivan. Mike was more than willing to find a retired green Holiday Inn van but Jen graciously declined.
Mike and Jen raised the 6 children on the family farm, all working together making it a true family farm with his brothers, parents and cousins helping out often.
Mike loved hunting, spearing, shed hunting, tinkering in the shop and taking his annual hunting trip with his brother and one or two of the kids to the ranch in SD. The only thing he loved more was his children and the family him and Jen had made together.
After many years of milking cows the wear and tear on his body was taking its toll. In 2020, he made the most difficult decision of his life to sell the dairy cows.
After this he was blessed to start doing custom work with Steve Johnson, and Robert Carrlson. He loved cutting deer in the season back with his longtime friend Jack Nelson and family this past fall.
Leaving behind at the farm to continue on his legacy are Jen, William, James(Katelyn Mack), Grace(Charlie Mayfield), Benjamin(Kate Spadgenske), Macey(Blake Herges) and Lucey. Siblings Rose(Shawn) Loken, Mary(Bob) Adkinson, John(Maria) Minten, Tom(Pam) Minten, and Angela Minten and so so many extended family and friends.
Preceding Mike in death are his parents Joe and Delores Minten.
Mike's family wants to thank everyone who has reached out, lent a hand on the farm, or a shoulder to cry on. They could not have made it through this unexpected tragedy without the support and knowing you will be here to help them in the difficult days ahead brings them comfort.
