Melissa “Missy” Marie Johnson

Melissa “Missy” Johnson, 44, of Superior, Wisconsin, formerly of Henning, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at her home in Superior.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, Minnesota. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Belmont-Karvonen Funeral Home in Henning. An additional visitation will take place from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will follow services and a time of fellowship and luncheon at Girard Union Cemetery.

Melissa “Missy” Marie Johnson was born on January 28, 1982, in Wadena, Minnesota, the daughter of Wesley and LuAnn (Lohse) Johnson. She was an only child and was baptized and confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning. She attended school in Henning and graduated from Henning High School before continuing her education at the University of Minnesota, Morris, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English, something she carried with great pride throughout her life.

Following college, Missy entered the insurance industry, where her family would often say she “worked for every insurance company imaginable.” Through the years, she became a dedicated and highly respected claims adjuster, known for her compassion, attention to detail, and genuine care for the people she helped. Most recently, she was employed with Allstate Insurance. It was through her work that she met Fred eight years ago during a training course he was assisting with, a connection that would grow into a meaningful and lasting relationship. Missy was a terrific coworker, outgoing, thoughtful, and always planning ahead, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she worked alongside.

Outside of her career, Missy found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved gardening, knitting, and tackling puzzles, especially the more challenging ones. She enjoyed building Lego sets, cooking hearty meals, especially her roasts, and was firm in her belief of “no instant potatoes.” She also enjoyed playing video games with Fred, even if she would be the first to admit she was not very good at them. Above all, Missy cherished her time with those she loved, including her dog Finn and her cat Molly, and rarely missed an opportunity to follow the Minnesota Twins.

Missy was preceded in death by her mother, LuAnn, and her grandparents.

Those left to honor Missy’s memory include her father, Wes (Carol Zielinski) Johnson of Henning, Minnesota; her significant other of eight years, Fred Schaefer, and his children, Julia and Maribell Schaefer of Superior, Wisconsin; along with many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will remember her warmth, kindness, and steady presence in their lives.
