Mathias “Matt” Howard Ament was born on December 11, 1944, in Bluffton, Minnesota. His parents were the late John George and Mercedies Margaret (Kunnari) Ament. Matt attended St. Ann’s Parochial School, then attended Wadena High School.
Matt worked for Peterson Biddick for 4 years before being employed as a lead man at Gresen Manufacturing in Minneapolis for 34 years. In 2002, Matt was able to retire and make his home in Wadena.
Matt treasured the time he spent with his nieces and nephews. Throughout his life he showed a special interest in each of their lives and they loved and appreciated Uncle Matt’s generous heart. Matt also loved to draw and enjoys watching the Twins and Vikings games. He had a special interest in old school hot rods, boating, water skiing and gardening.
On October 20, 2024, Matt passed away at Edenbrook of St. Cloud, Minnesota. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Matt in death are his parents, John and Mercedies Ament; sisters: Jane Ament and Margaret Ament; and brother: Ken (Jane) Ament; sister-in-law, Melva Ament.
Surviving Matt are his sisters: Judy (Ed) Fazekas of Mountain Home, Arkansas; Etta (Paul) Vasecka of Elk River; Ruth Ament-Owens of St. Louis Park; Mary Ann (Dwight) Line of Wadena; Sharon (Dave) Brockob of Aekley; and Linda Ament of Blaine; brothers: John Ament of Wadena; Dan (Debbie) Ament of Perham; and Rick (Karen) Ament of Park Rapids; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and a host of friends.
