Mathias Wayne Newhouse

Mathias “Wayne” Newhouse, 94, of rural Deer Creek, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12th, at his home in the countryside with his daughter Wendy and his cat, Cowie, by his side. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life for Wayne and his late wife, Deanna “Diane” Newhouse (2025), will be held at a later date.

Mathias Wayne Newhouse was born on August 1st, 1931, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Mathias and Ruby (Paasch) Newhouse. Wayne grew up in Kenosha, completing all of his schooling there and graduating with the Class of 1949. Following high school, he entered the workforce as an auto technician for American Motors Corporation — now part of Chrysler. During his years in the shop, he worked on many of the iconic AMC vehicles of the era, including the Rambler American, Rambler Classic, AMC Javelin, and the AMC Gremlin. Working on cars wasn’t just a job for Wayne; it was something he truly loved.

During his young adult years, Wayne would often make trips down to Zion, Illinois, spending time with friends and enjoying the small-town atmosphere. It was during that chapter of his life that he met the love of his life, Diane Bellmore. The two were married on June 30th, 1962, in Kenosha. Together they shared 63 years of marriage — a lifetime of devotion, partnership, and quiet, steady love.

Wayne enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: working on cars, fishing, hunting, and caring for his family. He absolutely cherished Diane’s cooking, and he took great pride in cutting the lawn...a task he came to love even more after his years working as a greenskeeper at the Kenosha Country Club. He was a man who found contentment in work done well and time spent with the people he loved.

Those left to honor Wayne’s memory include his children, Wendy, Heidi, Margaret, and Matt; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson soon to arrive, as well as many nieces & nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane; his son, Tony; his parents; and his siblings, Richard, Marlene, and Jean. May they all rest in peace.

The family would like to include the link to Diane’s obituary, as a joint memorial service for both Wayne and Diane will be held together at a later date.
