Lynne Haakenson Obituary

Lynne Diane Helfenstein was born on May 1, 1949, in Bismarck, North Dakota.  Her parents were the late Floyd and Helen (Sloan) Helfenstein.  Lynne graduated from the Bismarck High School with the class of 1967.  She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot, North Dakota.   

Lynne was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Mandan Hospital in Mandan, North Dakota and then the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.   On March 26, 1984, Lynne was united in marriage with Roger Haakenson in Jamestown, North Dakota. Together they made their home and raised their family in Jamestown. 

 Lynne was employed with the North Dakota Hospital in Jamestown for over 36 years.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and camping at the Jamestown Reservoir.  She also enjoyed knitting and reading.  

Lynne passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Wadena, Minnesota, and the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice at 74 years of age.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  Preceding Lynne in death were her parents, Floyd and Helen Helfenstein and her husband, Roger Haakenson. 

Lynne is survived by her children: Melissa (Chad Housh) Guthmiller of Montpelier, North Dakota; Shawn (Nadine) Haakenson of Jamestown, North Dakota, and Jennifer (Shayde) Holte of Wadena, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren: Caitlyn, Zach, Tula, Cash, and Brody; brother, Gary (Patricia) Helfenstein of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
