Loren Roy Koehler, 64, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022, at his home in New York Mills, MN surrounded by his family. He was born on July 29, 1957, in Duluth, MN the son of Norman and Jean (Petersen) Koehler.
Loren grew up and lived in New York Mills. He graduated high school from New York Mills in 1975. In the summers he would work as a carpenter.
On August 11, 1979, at the St. John’s Church in Corliss Township, MN, Loren was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rhonda Steeke, and they were blessed with three girls. The couple moved to the farm shortly after getting married and began farming in 1981. Loren was a loving husband and doting father. He played baseball, football, and wrestled. He enjoyed watching the MN Twins, Vikings and the Wild as well as the local teams, especially when his grandkids were playing.
Loren was a lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and his farm. Rhonda knew that if she couldn’t see him, it was because he was out in the woods. He could spot and identify tracks while driving down the road and would know more about the wildlife in the area than anyone else. He took drives around the block mulitple times a day to check for new trails and created a multi-generation tradition of looking for deer each evening. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family and got all three girls into deer hunting. Opening weekend of deer season was busy at the Koehler house, with Loren, his girls and son-in-laws fighting over stands and guessing who'd get the next big buck. He loved Rhonda and they danced together every night in the last two years. His girls were his world and they called him “Dad-O-Dad”.
Deeply loved, Loren’s passing will be mourned by his wife of 42 years Rhonda; his daughters Alexis (Andy) Goeson, Lindsey (Adam) Carlson, and Whitney (Tyler) Wegscheid; his grandchildren Jada Goeson, Jett Goeson, Jemma Goeson, Jax Goeson, Alexandra Carlson, Isabelle Carlson, Jade Wegscheid, Gretta Wegscheid, and Leo Wegscheid; his mother Jean Koehler; his sisters Lynn, LeAnn and Naomi and a host of other family and friends.
Loren is preceded in death by his father Norman Koehler.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Loren’s doctor, Dr. Marylee Legried, for all of her wonderful care, as well as Lake Country Home Care for their support during Loren’s final days.
