Loren Hoyhtya Obituary

Loren Wayne Hoyhtya was born December 7, 1944, to Henry “Ernie” & Ellen (Lind) Hoyhtya.  He grew up on the family farm north of Henning and attended school in Henning until 1960 when the family sold the farm and moved to the Twin Cities.  He graduated from Sibley High School in 1962.  Loren attended Inver Grove Heights Junior College and Mankato State University, graduating with a degree in Parks and Recreation Administration.  Loren entered the United States Navy where he was stationed in the Mediterranean twice during active duty in 1964-1966 and then transferred into the Naval Reserves.

On June 15, 1974 Loren was united into marriage to Diane Gullickson in Fertile, Minnesota.  The couple made their home in rural Cold Spring and were blessed with two children Lee and Anne. In the fall of 2007 Loren and Diane retired to their home on Leaf Lake which was part of the original Hoyhtya homestead.

Loren was an active member of the Deer Creek American Legion Post, the Darkhouse Association of New York Mills, the Leaf Lake Association, and proudly revitalized the Leaf Lake Cemetery.  Loren enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, watching sports, and the meticulous care of his lawn.

Loren will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 50 years Diane; Son Lee (Jacqueline) Hoyhtya of St Joseph, Minnesota; daughter Anne (Jonathan) Lawson of St. Cloud, Minnesota ; three precious grandchildren Henry and Eleanor Hoyhtya, Emma Lawson.  One sister LuAnn (Tim) Stelter of Oregon, Wisonsin and many relatives and friends.
