Layne Allen Stenslie was born January 18, 1949 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. His parents were the late Carl and Alma (Torgerson) Stenslie. Layne graduated from the Moorhead High School in Moorhead, Minnesota with the class of 1967. He attended North Dakota College of Science in Fargo, North Dakota.
Layne honorably served in the United States Army from July 10, 1970 to February 17, 1972. He was stationed in Germany where he was responsible for atomic demolition.
After the service Layne made his home in Mahnomen, Minnesota where he was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked for several years with the Mahnomen County Highway Department and then went to work with Otter Tail County Highway Department where he worked on highway maintenance department for 25 years.
On March 14, 2003 Layne was united in marriage with Bege in Sisseton, South Dakota. Together they made their home in Deer Creek, Minnesota. Layne retired in 2011. He enjoyed camping and going to rodeo’s in Montana.
On April 27, 2024 Layne passed away peacefully at St. Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota at 75 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Layne in death were his parents, Carl and Alma Stenslie; 2 brothers: Keith Stenslie and Kevin Stenslie.
Layne is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Bege Stenslie of Deer Creek; step-children: Amber, Sadie & Noah; grandkids: Aubrey, Ivy, Anthony, Ava, Natalie & Ethan; siblings: Cheryl (Larry) Gray of Casper, Wyoming, Barbara Wilkes of Billings, Montana and Clyde Stenslie of Towner, North Dakota; his good friend, John Bushman.
