Kenneth "Ken" Szathmary, age 53, of Verndale, Minnesota passed away on April 15, 2023 at his home. A visitation for Kenneth will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Karvonen Funeral Home in Wadena, Minnesota with prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Kenneth Fah, Dustin Luukinen, Tracy Gibson, Brian Olson, Cory Christiansen, Rush Ash, Josh Winters, Gerald Nice and Kevin Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are all his grandchildren and his coworkers from Trident.
Kenneth “Ken” Michael Szathmary was born on February 7, 1970 in Mesa, Arizona to Laszlo and Gail (Henderson) Szathmary. He graduated from Sebeka High School with the class of 1988. While in high school, Kenneth enjoyed boxing and being a part of Golden Gloves Boxing in Wadena. Kenneth had one son, Kenneth Michael Fah with Darlene Schmidtz.
Kenneth lived in many places during his lifetime. He was a hard worker and wore many hats. Ken worked at Amcon Block and Fagen Construction building ethanol plants. He also worked at a turkey farm, was a millwright, a welder and a maintenance worker. He worked at Trident Seafood Plant for 19 years in the maintenance and fabrication department.
In January of 1999 he met Connie Richmond at a bar when she asked him to dance. They married in July 12, 2003 at a ceremony in their yard outside Wadena. This marriage blessed Kenneth with three step-children Dustin, Heather and Ashley.
He loved motorcycling, fishing, hunting, tattooing, custom mechanics, tinkering with small engines, anything to do with Conan the Barbarian and helping others. He was a great storyteller and loved the great outdoors and having bonfires with family and friends.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 19 years Connie; his parents Laszlo and Gail; his children Kenneth Michael (Sai) Fah, Dustin (Jennifer) Luukinen, Heather (Tommy Jay) Luukinen and Ashley Luukinen; five grandchildren: Nakoda Church, Briley Richmond, Payton Church, Jordan Richmond and Hunter Richmond; siblings: Laszlo (Mindy) Szathmary Jr., David (Kristin) Szathmary, Michelle Szathmary, Christopher Szathmary; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his brother Joseph “Josie” Szathmary, his grandparents and his in-laws Kenneth and Eloise Richmond.
