Keith "Barney" Rodney Gugel

Keith “Barney” Rodney Gugel was born on December 24, 1951 in Pipestone, Minnesota. His parents were the late George and Arloeen (Koopman) Gugel. Barney attended Pipestone High school, graduating with the class of 1969. Barney served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973.  In 1973, Barney made his home in Minneapolis where he met his future wife, Mary Lou Sharp. 

On May 10, 1975 Barney Gugel and Mary Sharp were united in marriage in Minneapolis. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Michelle and Amanda. The family made their home in Henning. Barney was employed at Henning Elevator and Trite’s Turkey Farm in Henning, Minnesota. Barney was then employed and finished his working career with Wrights Tree Service in Iowa from April 1, 1980 to January 3, 2015.

Barney enjoyed playing softball in his younger days, open fishing weekend with his friend Mike, driving around the countryside with his 4-legged best friend, listening to Bob Dylan aka “Dylanizing in the backyard”, putz around outside, watching all kinds of sports and joking with family and friends. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes when making a joke.

On May 22, 2021 Barney passed away at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, Minnesota at 69 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. 

Preceding Barney in death are his parents George and Arloeen Gugel.

Surviving Barney is his wife of 46 years, Mary Gugel of Henning; daughters: Michelle (Scott) Gunderson of Vining, Amanda (Daved) Hodgin of Red Wing; 3 grandchildren: Casey and Alivia Gunderson, Bentley Hodgin; sister: Cynthia (Mike) Turchin of Henning; his dog: Peanut; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
