Kathleen “Kathy” Ann (Maunumaki) Loween, age 81, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, passed away May 24, 2025. Our beloved wife and mother passed away at home surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2022 and entered hospice care one month prior to her passing.
Kathy was born on October 16, 1943, in Leaf Lake Township, Minnesota. She was the third of ten children born to Howard and Linda (Fraki) Maunumaki.
Kathy grew up in Heinola, Minnesota and graduated from New York Mills High School in 1961. She worked at Wesley hospital, Bethesda hospital, Coon Rapids Medical Center and retired from Allina Health Clinic in 2009.
Kathy enjoyed shopping for antique furniture and jewelry, reading, attending plays and music events and spending time with family and friends.
Kathy married the love of her life, Berndt Loween on October 16, 1965. They have three daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Berndt Loween; children: Melissa Loween, Lynn Loween, and Kristine Coates; grandchildren: Taryn (Jukka) Maunumaki, Morgan Coates (fiancé Hunter Gossard), and Brendan Coates; great-grandchildren: Emilia Maunumaki and Kalle Maunumaki; brother: Donald (Diane) Maunumaki; sisters: Judy Johnson, Carol (Arnie) Saarela, Nancy (Dennis) Peyerl, and Wanda (Mike) Erickson; aunt: Ellen (John) Mursu; brother-in-law: Richard Loween; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Linda Maunumaki; brothers: James, Howard (Danny) and Ronald Maunumaki; sister: Janice Meyers; granddaughter: baby Melissa Loween.
