John “Jack” Trosen was born on January 22, 1939, to Herman & Grace (Hulst) Trosen in Ardoch, North Dakota. The family moved from Ardoch, North Dakota to a farm near Verndale, Minnesota in 1950. Jack graduated from Verndale High School with the class of 1957 and from there to Minneapolis for college. He and Grayce Olson were united into marriage on July 4, 1959, and he finished college in 1962 and with Grayce and their first child in tow were sent to his first pastorate in Bristol, South Dakota where they added child number two to the family.
Three years later they moved to Williston, North Dakota and added three more children to the family. They were there for five years, and then moved to Peever, South Dakota and then to Sisseton, South Dakota to serve with the Lowell Lundstrom Ministries. He worked for them for sixteen years and then went back to pastoring in Pine River, Minnesota. Jack and Grayce were there for eleven years. Then they moved to Moville, Iowa for one year and then to Brooklyn Park, Minnesota where he was a church conference superintendent for eight years. Then, Jack and Grayce retired to Wadena in 2005. He filled many a pulpit after moving to Wadena because ministry was his calling. Jack and Grayce were profoundly affected by the loss of their home in the 2010 tornado, but they rallied and relocated to another part of town. Jack also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, attending family bible camp and attending bluegrass music festivals.
Jack is preceded into death by his daughter Sheri Stramer; parents Herman and Grace Trosen; five brothers: Robert, Ferd, Dirk, Hermie, and David; four sisters Evelyn, Bernice, Doris and Grace.
Jack’s passing will be mourned by his beloved wife of 66 years Grayce, children Brad (Laura) Trosen, Marla (David) Richter, Jacqueline (Bruce) Smith, and Beverly Trosen; son-in-law Jon (Tami) Stramer; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Janice Carlson and Janet (Charles) Lameson.
