John Herman Flath was born on September 11, 1934, to Herman William and Ida Anna (Bahls) Flath in Perham, Minnesota. John attended Country School District #242 south of Evergreen. He served in the United States Marines Corp, being honorably discharged in 1962.
John Herman Flath and Marlys Joann Greenwaldt were united in marriage on November 25, 1983, at the United Methodist Church in Perham.
John did construction work in Fargo, North Dakota for a number of years. Then moving to Butler Township, rural Menahga, Minnesota where he farmed until 1996. He enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.
John passed away on May 3, 2024, in the comfort of his own home. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. John is preceded by his siblings: Vernon, Clarence, Adelyne, Blanche, Roy, Edwin, and Irma Flath; brothers-in-law: Karl Rinas and Daniel Boane; sister-in-law: Rosie Flath.
John is survived by his loving wife: Marlys Flath of Menahga; children: Denise Misanes of Bellingham, Washington; Dena Flath of Washington; Debra Kelley of Ancorage, Alaska; John (Monica) Flath of Menahga; step-children: Lynda (Terry) Manselle of Kandiyohi; Rodney Haidle of Staples; Brian Koplin of St. Peters; brother, Marvin (JoAnn) Flath and sister, Maria Walker. numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives.
