Jean Wohlert

Jean Verna Piippo was born on March 1, 1944 in Wadena, Minnesota.  Her parents were the late Einar and Ruth (Haavig) Piippo.  Jean graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1962.  Jean resided in Minneapolis for 2 years where she was employed with the Federal Reserve Bank. 

On November 21, 1964 Jean was united in marriage with Harold Otto Wohlert at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York Mills.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 children: Paul, David and Debra.  Jean and Otto made their home for a short time in Wadena where Jean was employed at the 1st National Bank and then moved to New York Mills to raise their family.  Jean was employed in bookkeeping at the Deer Creek School and then the New York Mills Coop while she attended Wadena Vocation Technical College.  She also worked at the Pemena Group Home in Wadena until she was in a car accident in June of 1993.

Jean enjoyed gardening and crocheting.  She has been a member of the New York Mills Book Club since 2002.  In 2009 Jean discovered she had cancer but she fought the battle and won!

On June 21, 2020 Jean passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota at 76 years of age.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  Preceding Jean in death were her parents, Einar and Ruth.

Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years Harold Otto Wohlert of New York Mills;  children:  Paul Wohlert of Minneapolis; David (Terri) Wohlert of Deer Creek; Debra Wohlert Juarez of St. Paul;  5 grandchildren:  Alix, Isabel, Thomas, Maximus and Marina;  siblings:  Gerald (Celia) Piippo of New York Mills; Joyce White of Wadena; Janet (Richard) Gregorich of Hibbing; Nancy (Marco) Olsen of New York Mills; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
