Janice JoAnn “Jan” Dorow was born on May 6, 1944, to Floyd and Olga (Steinhauer) Dorow in Wadena, Minnesota. Jan attended New York Mills High School, graduating with the class of 1962.
On March 21, 1964 Jan was united in marriage to Raymond Barthel, Jr. at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Roxanne, Rhonda, Rachel, and Ryan. Together they made their home in Bluffton, Minnesota.
In 1984 Jan began her employment with Mid-State Auto Auction in New York Mills. She enjoyed the auto auction where she enjoyed visiting with customers and making life long friends.
Jan enjoyed participating in area events. The Ronald McDonald Motorcycle RIDE was a must to attend every year and loved saving pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. She also enjoyed attending WE-FEST was her favorite for over 30 years and also enjoyed bowling and playing BINGO.
On April 16, 2026 Jan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Perham Living at 81 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Jan in death are her parents, Floyd C. Dorow and Olga Sophia (Steinhauer)(Dorow) Krekula; step-father, Maurice John Krekula; husband, Raymond Leo Barthel Jr.; brother: Charles Dorow; and great-nephew: Lamar Dorow.
Jan is survived by her loving children: Roxanne (Tim) Peterson of St. Michael; Rhonda (Travus) McManigle of Wadena; Rachel (Paul) Mindermann of New York Mills; and Ryan Barthel of Wadena; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister: Janell (Joel “JJ”) Brever of Minneapolis; brother: Duane (Georgia) Dorow of Frazee; many other relatives and a host of friends.
In honor of her longtime support of the Ronald McDonald House RIDE and the Ronald McDonald House of Fargo, attendees are invited to bring aluminum pop tabs to her service for donation, continuing a cause she cared deeply about.
