James Kumara

James (Jimmy, J.R.) Rodney Kumara, age 81, of Park Rapids, MN died at home from health reasons on June 25, 2025.

James was born to Hugo and Laura (Thiede) Kumara on September 24, 1943, in Ottertail County, Perham, MN. He attended and graduated from Chisholm High School in Chisholm, MN.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1965-1967. Jimmy was a drywall taper for most of his working years. He loved doing crossword puzzles and was very efficient at them. He enjoyed going to casinos, watching the MN Twins and Vikings on television.

Jimmy is survived by numerous cousins, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Laura, and brothers LeRoy and Duane.

Join us for a celebration of life for J.R. on Saturday, October 11 at 10 AM at the Wolf Lake Community Hall in downtown Wolf Lake. Enjoy cookies and coffee while looking at photo albums and remembering J.R.

For those who are able, we’ll then walk from the hall to internment in the Wolf Lake Cemetery with the NorthStar Marine Corp Honor Guard assisting.
