Irene Frost Obituary

Irene Virginia Thompson was born at home in Waubun, Minnesota to Hazel (Williamson) and Ernest Thompson on June 8th, 1932. Mom was the oldest of five children.

When mom was eight years old her family moved to a farm south of New York Mills, Minnesota. It was here that mom grew up, went to school, and made lifelong friends. Most importantly, it was during this time that she met a handsome farm boy from north of town.

Mom graduated from high school in 1950 and went off to San Francisco and the handsome farm boy had been in the Merchant Marines during WWII and Korea, but never forgot about mom.

Finally, on September 22, 1952 Bud (Duane) and Irene, destined for each other, were married in New York Mills. They had three children: Carmen; and twins: Chris and Colleen.

Each and every child was special to mom. Mom also had a special place in her heart for Wayne Erickson.

Throughout Mom’s life she worked beside dad in their restaurants. They had one of the first supper clubs in our area. They both took such pride in their business, and they truly enjoyed the people. Over the years they owned restaurants first in New York Mills, then Perham, Minneapolis, and Hibbing.

Mom’s family was her life and her family felt honored and grateful to care for her, as she cared for them. Mom was a real treasure.

Preceding Irene in death are her grandparents: Lawrence and Selena Williamson; parents: Ernest and Hazel Thompson; sister: Martha Hanson; brothers: Robert Thompson; James Thompson; and Jack Thompson; brother-in-law: Glenn Hanson; sisters-in-law: Violet Thompson; and Marilyn Thompson.

Irene Frost is survived by her loving husband: Bud; daughters: Carmen (Allen) Arvig; and Colleen Frost; son: Chris (Tracy) Frost; grandchildren: David (Shar) Arvig; Dennis Arvig; Michelle (Karl) Biederman; Jay Arvig; Ashley Arvig; Haley (Frost) Nelson; Heriman, Elliot, Francis and Oliver Frost; Adam Frost; and Hu Xuetin (Ting); eight great-grandchildren: Cora; Eleanor; Anton; Justin; Violet; Colin Kawlewski; Elena (Brent);  and Evan (Hanh); two great-great-grandchildren: Nora and Myles Weller; sister-in-law: Bonnie (Robert) Thompson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
