Herbert Joseph Waskosky was born on December 13, 1923 at home in Rice County, rural Faribault, Minnesota. His parents were the late Frederick Julius and Mary Louise (Remillard) Waskosky. Herb attended Faribault High School. He honorably served in the United States Army from September 27, 1945 to February 6, 1947, stationed in Korea. Herb returned to Rice County where he farmed with his parents and brothers Leo and Lewis before moving to Henning in 1958, later moving his parents to Henning as well.
On June 30, 1964 Herb was united in marriage to Mary Jane Buerskin at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank, Minnesota. Together they made their home in rural Henning where they farmed. Herb retired from farming full-time in 1988 and began his employment with the City of Henning. On November 7, 2004 Mary Jane passed away. Herb made his home at Comfort Care Cottages in Wadena, Minnesota in October of 2010.
Herb loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, gunsmithing and carving. He enjoyed making his own gun stocks. He also liked playing his accordion and specialized in yodeling.
On April 19, 2021 Herb passed away at Comfort Care Cottages in Wadena at 97 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Herb in death are his parents: Fredrick and Mary; wife: Mary Jane; brothers: Julius, Lewis and Leo; sisters: Frieda (Clem) Perron; and Lorayne (Clifford) Morris.
Herb is survived by his daughter: Teresa (Adrian) Erickson of Wadena; sons: Randy (Regina) Waskosky of Pelican Rapids; and Ben (Melissa) Waskosky of Fort Ripley; 6 grandchildren: Nicholas (Chelsey), Megan (Ken), Daniel (Britni) Samuel, Sophia, and J.J.; 2 great-grandchildren: Raven and Dakota; sisters-in-law: Betty Waskosky of Big Lake; and Pat Waskosky of Henning; many other relatives and a host of friends.
