Helen Irene Christenson

Helen Irene Christenson, age 99, of Deer Creek, MN. Passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026 at St. Williams Living Center, Parker Prairie, MN.

Services will be held Saturday, March 14th, 2026, at Joyful Spirit Methodist Church, Wadena, MN. at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till time of service. Interment will be at Inman Cemetery, Henning.

Helen was born in Fergus Falls on January 13, 1927, to Carl and Julia (Olson) Knudson. She was baptized in Fergus Falls and confirmed in Henning. Attending schools in Vining, Richville and graduated in 1945 from Henning. Following graduation, she worked at the S&L store in Fergus Falls until her marriage.

March 1, 1946, Helen was united in marriage with Alton Christenson. The couple farmed at Waubun for four years, moving to Fergus Falls in 1950. In 1962 they moved to their farm by Deer Creek, living there till their retirement in 1978.

She was a member of the Deer Creek United Methodist Church and the Deer Creek Garden club. Enjoying family and friends, playing cards, going to dances, reading and doing crossword puzzles. Helen was well known for not letting anyone go away without having something to eat! She loved making lefse every year and shared the goody with all. In later years she found a love of going to the casinos where she had a knack of winning.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Alton, her sisters Corrine Floen, Emma Moen, Florence Green, Milly Stras and Anna Straub. Brothers Harlan, Curt, Ernest, Elmer and Lloyd Knudson. Daughter-in-law Carol (Keskitelo) Christenson. Grand children Joseph and Jamie Christenson. Great grandchild, Kody Christenson. In-laws Eleanor, Kelly, Wilbert, Darlene and Doreen.

Survivors are children Gary (Ardy) of Wadena, Dennis (Linda) of Ottertail, Pam Niemi of New York Mills, Bruce/Butch (Barb) of Hewitt, Diane (Mick) Hannuksela of Deer Creek and Julie (Russ) Garland of Oklahoma.

Grandchildren, Keith, Kyle, Cory, Melanie, Derek, Chad, Jana, Stacy, Mike, Lee, Tyler and Zach.

Great grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Alex, Jared, Keira Mai, Casey, Zach, Grace, Dylan, Caleb, Madelyn, Mackenzie, Jenny, Riley, Courtney, Makenzie, Kobe and Cam.

Great great grandchildren, Lucas, Jackson, Samuel, Brody and Parker.
