Glen Heinen
February 22, 1948 – July 8, 2025
Glen Heinen, age 77, passed away on July 8, 2025, at Willow Creek Assisted Living in Henning, Minnesota.
Glen Jerome Heinen was born on February 22, 1948, in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, to Francis and Doreen (Sums) Heinen. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, was medically discharged, and spent much of his working life as a truck driver on the Iron Ore Range—work that suited his strong spirit and love for the road.
Those who knew Glen will remember his sense of humor, quick wit, and love of racing—whether it was tuning into the track, reminiscing about old race cars, or building model cars with care and detail. He was a man who found joy in the little things: walks along the nature trail in Henning, classic TV reruns on MeTV, bingo, and afternoons spent painting, drawing, or coloring. Art was his way of expressing a quiet and thoughtful side.
Animals held a special place in Glen’s heart, especially his beloved cat Sammy, who passed shortly after him. He also deeply loved spending time with his adopted granddaughters, Maddie and Natalie, and their dog Harry. Despite modest means, Glen always made sure the girls were taken care of—everything he had, he gave to them. They brought him joy and laughter, and he cherished every moment with them.
Glen is survived by his close friend who he loved dearly, Barb Boicourt; dear, loving friends Gary and Donna Bartels of Bertha, along with their granddaughters Maddie and Natalie, whom he loved like his own grandchildren; and the many staff and friends he came to know at Willow Creek Assisted Living. He’ll be remembered for his stories, his smile, and the simple way he brought warmth into people’s lives.
