Gladys Clementine Phillips was born on May 18, 1941, at Wesley Hospital in Wadena, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Jesse Carlos and Verna Marcelline (Kumpula) Phillips. Gladys was baptized on July 15, 1941, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills and confirmed on June 3, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills. She graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1960. Gladys was employed with Northwest Paper Mill in Brainerd, Minnesota for 3 years.
On June 6, 1964, Gladys was united in marriage with Argil Dean Lueders at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with four children—John, Brian, Holly, and Sarah. Together Gladys and Argil raised their children and farmed in Ottertail, Minnesota.
A woman of many talents and interests, Gladys enjoyed crafts, quilting, woodworking, gardening, and baking every Saturday. She was part owner of the Crafters Nook in Ottertail and contributed to her community by driving bus for St. John's Parochial School. Gladys was a long-time member of St. John’s Ladies Aid where she served as President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Argil; and her siblings Raymond and Margaret. She is lovingly remembered by her children: John (Dawn) Lueders, Brian (Lynn) Lueders, Holly (Aaron) Kern, and Sarah (Jim) Hansen; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother Roger (Kanya) Phillips; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.
Gladys’s life was marked by devotion to family, faith, and community. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
