Gisela Moench

Gisela was born July 8, 1943, to Karl and Anna (Bachhofer) Mulhaupt in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany.  She came to America in 1960 and resided in Wadena, MN, for 65 years.  Gisela married Duane Moench on New Year’s Eve 1960 and spent 30 years of her life with him.

Gisela found fulfillment in her work in the deli where she was promoted to Deli Manager (1988-2019) at Larry’ Foods which later became, Fix’s Family Foods, The Grocery Store, and finally, Super One.  During her career in the deli, she loved making meat and cheese trays, and fruit dishes in the shape of boats, baskets and frogs.  She earned the affection of many as she made sure all her hard-working lunchtime customers had plenty on their plate with her famous daily lunch specials.   She knew everyone’s names and never forgot their favorites.  

Gisela was a hard worker - from mowing the lawn, to working alongside Duane with his business, to helping deliver calves on the hobby farm.  She loved to spend time with family, grandkids, great grandkids and her grand dogs, spoiling all with treats and money.  Gisela was proud of her German heritage and never lost her Schwabisch accent.

Gisela was an extremely generous and loving person.  She loved to drive around and look at nature, crochet, knit, play board games, put together puzzles, and watch the Minnesota Vikings.  Gisela made a lasting impression on all. 

Gisela is preceded into death by her son Michael Duane Moench; infant great-grand daughter Evelyn Smith; and brother Karl Mulhaupt.  

Gisela is survived by her children: Carol Moench, Heidi (Todd) Lockaby, Michelle (Brian) Richter, Duane T (Jillian) Moench; grandchildren: Bre (Brian) Downer, Bryce Hanson, Amanda (Matthew) Frederick, Mikaela Hutson, Neil (Amelia) Hutson, Ashley (Blaine) Anderson, Megan (Andrew) Smith, Kaitlyn (Brandon) Ohrmundt , Duane D Moench, Katrina Moench, and Lillian Moench; great-grandchildren: Barrett, Lexi, Noelle, Noah, AdaLia, Sophie, Adriana, Everlyn, Lucas, Lincoln, Eleanor, Kayden, Konner, Tate, Olivia, Dutton; grand dogs: Tito, Gus, and Mila; siblings: Christa (Josef) Fahr, Anneliese (Sefer) Taraman, Dieter(Ilona) Mulhaupt; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  

Gisela’s kindness and presence have touched many and now in heaven she holds her son, Michael, and great-granddaughter, Evelyn.
