Gerald "Dean" Griffith Obituary

Gerald "Dean" Griffith, lovingly known as Choke, passed away on May 27, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on January 19, 1952, in Minneapolis, MN, and later resided in Verndale, MN. Dean was a trucker by profession, dedicating his life to his career until his first round of cancer disabled him in 1999.

Dean had a passion for various hobbies, including woodworking, motorcycle and classic car builds, blacksmithing, building black powder rifles, watching classic movies, and solving crossword puzzles. He had an eclectic taste in music, enjoying the tunes of Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Hank Jr, Waylon Jennings, CCR, and Fleetwood Mac.

Throughout his life, Dean faced numerous health challenges, surviving over 13 hospital stays in the past decade. Despite these hardships, he exhibited immense strength and resilience, overcoming lung cancer twice.

When he wasn't pursuing his hobbies, Dean found solace in riding his custom-built motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends.

Dean is survived by his mother, Donna Griffith, and his sisters, Cindy (Ronnie) Hanson and Deb Thompson. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his seven daughters: Corey Gibson of Staples, Heather Campbell of Elk River, Brandy (Ashley) Bosman of Wadena, Tracy (Adam) Johnson of Staples, Jessie (John) Griffith of Verndale, Rae Griffith of Minneapolis, and Elizabeth Griffith of Elk River, along with a few nieces, nephews and cousins scattered across the Midwest. He was also a beloved grandfather to his numerous grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Iva and Virgil Davidson and LeRoy Loucks; father, Vivien Griffith, and little sister, Pat Crouse.

Described as stubborn, loyal, good-looking, and a bit of a pain in the ass, Dean's personality traits were as vibrant as his presence. He was a great storyteller and would talk your ear off if you'd listen. He lived by the motto, "It's a matter of class," which was sort of ironic if you actually knew the man. His zest for life inspired those around him.

Dean will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
