George Clarence Mittag, born June 1, 1924, passed into God’s open arms on October 2, 2018. He graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1943 and shortly after, he was inducted into the military, where he served two years with the BTRY HQ 213th AAA Auto BN (Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment) during World War II. While serving in active duty, he received a Victory Medal, an American Theatre Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. George was honorably discharged from the United States Army on August 24, 1946.
On July 28, 1951 George was united in marriage with Doris Turnmire in Somerset, Wisconsin. He went on to work in the dairy industry, as a milk inspector/ fieldsman. Throughout his over 40-year career, he held several leadership positions in multiple cities around Minnesota, including Winsted, Bertha and Fergus Falls. George retired in 1988, though he continued to work full time on his 200-acre farm, which he loved incredibly. In addition to his Army service medals, he also collected numerous dancing trophies over the last several decades.
Preceded George in death were his mother and father, Charles and Caroline (Reger) Mittag; brothers: Roy, Earl, and Chuck Mittag; sisters: Doris, Janette, and Lucille Mittag; daughters-in-law: Pamela Mittag and Trudy Mittag; grandsons: Joshua Neumann and James Mittag.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Doris Mittag; sons: Randy (Elizabeth) Mittag; Brian Mittag; Gary (Pamela) Mittag; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
