Gary Glass Obituary

Gary Wayne Glass, age 75, of Richville, Minnesota, passed away on August 11, 2024.

Gary Wayne Glass was born on October 16, 1948, to Duane and Edna (Kaste) Glass in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Gary graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1966.

Gary enlisted in the United States Army in 1967, serving as a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam. He married Jean Malone on July 27, 1974, in Minneapolis. They moved to Richville where they made their home. Gary and Jean were blessed with four Children: Titus, Zoie, Elysia and Holly.

Gary owned and operated Coats of Many Colors Fox Ranch with his family until they retired in 2015. They also operated a rental business for 25 years.

Gary was a great outdoorsman enjoying trapping, fishing, hunting and gardening. Being outdoors gave Gary a sense of calm. He understood nature in a way that allowed him to understand life. He had a respect for nature and wildlife. Trapping was an extension of that respect, giving him the opportunity to learn and teach his family how to be part of something greater, passing down his knowledge and love to his children and grandchildren.

Writing and communication were Gary’s other passions. Some of his writings include a book about fox genetics and fox ranching, and articles for Minnesota Trapper and Fur, Fish & Game Magazine. He was a real conversationalist and could talk to absolutely anyone, but more than everything else, he loved talking and giving advice to his family. He was an introspective man who always believed one should have answers to questions asked, rather than just saying, “I don’t know.” Although he could sometimes appear as if he was just a grumpy old man, people were drawn to him, especially children. When the family would go to the beach, children would flock to him, and he taught many how to swim. Years later, Gary would be approached by people who recognized him who would offer thanks for the swimming lessons!

Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean; his children: Titus (Wendy) Glass, Zoie Glass, Elysia (John) McDonald and Holly (Pat) Weerts; grandchildren: Tristen McDonald, Satchel McDonald, Austin Harris, Devon White, Harris Weerts and Adaline Weerts; great-grandchild Bennet McDonald and sister Eva Johnson.
