Emil Arthur Johnson, age 93 years, formerly of Mt. Iron, MN died on Dec. 13, 2025, at Greenwood Connections in Menahga, MN under the gentle care of St Joseph's Hospice. Emil was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Meadow Township, near Menahga, MN the son of Oscar Charles & Lillian Julia (Samuelson) Johnson. He attended School District #39. Emil joined the United States Army in September 1953, serving in Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in 1961. Emil was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann May Hendrickson on August 3,1957; they were married for 65 years. Emil & Dorothy raised their family of six children on the Iron Range of Minnesota. He was employed by J&L Mines: Schley Mine, McKinley Mine, and finally Erie (LTV), where he retired at 62 years old. In retirement Emil enjoyed traveling with Dorothy and many friends to Finland, Alaska, Texas and across the United States on multiple occasions. Over the years many special memories were made with their children & grandchildren. They enjoyed working to keep their vegetable and flower gardens pristine, and visiting with sauna company on Saturday evenings. Emil & Dorothy moved to Woodside Manor Assisted Living in Menahga in 2020 where Emil most recently resided.
Emil will be lovingly remembered by children; Janet (Rick) Mattson, Jerry (Tami), Karen (Ed) Darland, Trina (Butch) Niska, Stanley (Andrea), and Philip (Mallie), 35 Grandchildren, 61 Great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, Sisters Milia Gwinn, & Elsie Erickson, Brother & Sister In-laws, Peter (Mary) Hendrickson, Victor Hendrickson, Mary (Paul) Jackola, Martha (Jerry) Pinoniemi, Betty Oja, Russell (Carol) Hendrickson, Gladys (Mike) Martin, Arnie (Tina) Hendrickson, Harry Hendrickson, Jim Hendrickson, Aunt Betty Samuelson, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of Brothers & Sisters in Faith.
Emil is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife Dorothy, Brothers & Wives, Albert (Lila), George (Janice), Sisters & Husbands Ellen (Henry) Hallikainen, Sophie (Melvin) Limanen, Brothers-in-law, Donald Erickson, and Earl Gwinn, Ray (Alice) Hendrickson, Ervin Peterson, Dave Oja, and Sisters-in-law Marie Hendrickson, Diane Hendrickson, and 4 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church on Thursday, Dec. 18th, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral service on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Davin Torola with burial at Runeberg Church Cemetery.
The family would like to thank everyone at Woodside Manor Assisted Living, Greenwood Connections and St. Joseph's Hospice for the loving care given to Emil.
