Duane Delbert Schultz (86) was the son of Henry and Emma (Jahnke) Schultz. He was born on August 8, 1938, in Ottertail, MN as the eighth child out of nine. He attended primary school in Leal, ND until his family moved to Kent, WA. He graduated from Kent-Meridian High School with the Class of 1956.
He served in the Army after high school and met Jeanette Smith in Rapid City, SD. They were united in marriage on June 11, 1966, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Rapid City. They were blessed with their son, Matthew Delbert, on July 20th, 1972. The couple made their home in Rapid City where Duane worked as an electronic/ mechanical technician on the Minute Man Ballistic Missile Program. The family travelled to numerous Air Force bases involved with this program. Over the years, they made their home at these Air Force bases: Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City SD, The Grand Forks AFB and the Minot AFB in North Dakota, the Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY, the Whiteman AFB in Missouri, the Malmstrom AFB in Grant Falls, MT, and the Hill AFB in Utah.
In the 1980's, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm near Parkers Prairie, MN. They also lived in Seattle, WA and San Antonio, TX where Jeanette operated a Day Care service out of their home. In 2002, the couple retired and moved to Erhart, MN and then to Menahga, MN, a year later in 2003.
Duane loved fishing and if he wasn't home, it was likely that you could find him out on some lake in the warmer months, or out ice fishing during the freezing ones.
