Dorothy Waskosky Obituary

Dorothy Jean Waskosky was born in Deer Creek on January 29, 1929, the youngest child of Frederick and Olive (Vick) Zeise. She graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1946 and from Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis in 1947. On May 29, 1947, at a double wedding where sisters married brothers, Dorothy was united in marriage with Martin Waskosky in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Henning where they raised their family. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she held various offices and was involved in the women’s groups.


Dorothy worked at the Henning and Clitherall post offices before becoming postmaster in Vining, retiring in 1989. After retirement, Martin and Dorothy enjoyed traveling on bus tours and with friends. Martin passed away in 1990 after which Dorothy served for several years on the Board of Directors of Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls. Later she volunteered at the Henning Health Care Center and the Zephyrhills, Florida, hospital.


She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, dancing, sewing, crocheting, feeding the birds, Scrabble, playing cards, her flowers, and spending the winters in Florida with Alvin Eckhoff, her childhood friend and loving companion.


On July 24, 2026, Dorothy passed away peacefully at Guardian Angels by the Lake in Elk River, Minnesota at 97 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents: Frederick and Olive Zeise; husband Martin; siblings: Bernard, Herbert, Lucile, Harold, Mabel, Eunice, Gordon, Gerald; daughter Joyce (Tyler) Hamerlik, and granddaughter, Andrea Hamerlik.


She is survived by five daughters: Gail (Brian) Bezanson, Marcia Waskosky, Karen (Jeff Taylor) Burgett, Joni (Scott) McPherson, and Lynnae Waskosky; son-in-law, Tyler Hamerlik; nine grandchildren: Beth (Joe) Putz, Melissa (Chris) Rowley, Erika (Jeremiah) Stich, Kate (Dave) Koschak, Justin (Kristen Bretz) Hamerlik, Lindsay McPherson, Kelsey (Baron Wuest) McPherson, Darby Waskosky and seven great-grandchildren.


Dorothy will be remembered for her love of family, the memories she created with those closest to her, and the lasting impact she had on everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
