Doris Martin

Doris Martin, age 100, of Wadena, Minnesota passed away on June 10, 2025, at Like Mother Like Daughter Assisted Living in Perham, Minnesota. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Karvonen Funeral Home in Wadena. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Doris will be laid to rest at Wadena Cemetery, Wadena, Minnesota.

Doris Elaine Hanson was born on May 12, 1925, in Oak Valley, Ottertail County, Hewitt, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Hans and Lida (Chapman) Hanson. Doris attended the Lyman school in District #102, Oak Valley Township. She graduated from Deer Creek High School with the class of 1943.

Doris worked 11 years as a nurse’s aide for the Thiel Hospital in Bertha.

Doris was united in marriage to Merlin Martin on September 28, 1945, in Park Rapids at Merlin’s sister’s home. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Sheryl, Karyl, Mary, Marlin, and Dennis. The family resided in Hewitt before making their home in Wadena in 1953.

From 1955, the family owned and operated Merlin Martin Trucking company until the mid-80’s. In the early 70’s the family also owned the Martin Carpet Sales.

Merlin Martin passed away on January 24, 1998.

Doris retired in 2018, and thru her life she enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, reading, bowling leagues and watching the Minnesota Twins.  Doris was very proud that she was able to live independently in her home until the age of 100.  Her final days were at Like Mother Like Daughter with loving and compassionate care.  

Preceding Doris in death are her parents Hans and Lida Hanson; husband: Merlin Martin; siblings: Avis, Erma, Selma, and Eloise; daughter-in-law: Debra Martin; and son-in-law Wally Deadrick.

Surviving Doris are her children: Sheryl Deadrick; Marlin Martin; Dennis (Eileen) Martin; Karyl (Bruce) Richter; and Mary Martin; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
