Doris Mae Cordes, age 91, of Perham, Minnesota passed away on May 22, 2025, at Perham Living, joyfully reuniting with her beloved husband Derald for a heavenly happy hour.
Born on May 25, 1933, in Henning, Minnesota, Doris was the daughter of Oscar and Gena (Allenson) Ellingson. She grew up in Henning alongside her siblings Orrell and Irene. After graduating, she ventured to California with her friend Phyllis, where she worked as a bank teller.
On May 28, 1955, Doris married the love of her life, Derald Cordes, in a double wedding with Phyllis and Wayne Peterson. Five years later, the couple returned to Minnesota, where Doris embraced life as a devoted farm wife and cherished “auntie” to a lively group of boys raised on the farm.
In retirement, Doris became affectionately known as “Granny” of Granny’s Pantry in Battle Lake. She also managed an apartment building in Minneapolis before discovering her favorite role—being a beach bum in Florida. There, she worked with a spirited team at Quill & Press, creating lasting friendships and memories.
Doris’ warmth and humor left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her final residence was Perham Living, where she received compassionate care from Jill and a dedicated team who made her final journey peaceful. Preceding Doris in death are her parents: Oscar and Gena; and her loving husband Derald.
She is survived by her daughter: Nancy (Ken) Moen; grandchildren: Heather (Chad) Liddle; Jeremy (Tori) Gordhamer; Brian (Angel) Moen; and Bob (Michelle) Moen; seven great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews; the beloved “farm boys”; and sisters-in-law: Vivian Palm, Caryl Hansen, and Colleen Cordes.
Doris will be laid to rest beside Derald, whom she missed dearly. Her legacy lives on through the joyful memories she created. We are truly blessed by the memory of her wonderful life.
