Donna Larson Obituary

Donna Lee Larson was born on August 1,1927 in Wadena, MN to Arthur and Florence Carlson.  Donna lived in Henning MN during her childhood and went on to college at the University of Minnesota where she graduated with a teaching degree in music.  After college, on June 17, 1949, Donna was united in marriage to James C Larson in Henning.  Following their marriage, Donna and Jim lived in Henning and Wheaton for a short time, until they moved to New York Mills where they raised their family.

Donna was a very busy mom.  Besides raising 4 children, she taught music in the Bertha-Hewitt and Verndale schools for a couple of years.  She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York Mills, where she played piano and organ for over 40 years.  For several years, Donna taught piano lessons in her home.  She was also an active member of the Candlelight Study Club.

Donna was a very dedicated homemaker who loved to cook and bake for her children and grandchildren.  The grandkids especially loved her tea ring.  She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, many of which were held at their cabin at West Leaf Lake.  Donna loved to quilt in her spare time.  She has left behind a legacy of quilts that her family will enjoy for years to come.

On January 10, 2021,  Donna passed away at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes at the age of 93.  Before her move to Diamond Willow, she lived at the Hadley House in Perham for a couple of years.  She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary and husband Gene Johnson of Coleraine MN;  Three sons: Scott and his wife Liliana of Dallas ,TX; Jerry and his wife Kathy of New York Mills; and James, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Wheaton MN; and a total of twelve beautiful grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim , her sister Louise Gaston, and her parents.
