Donald Raymond Hastings was born on July 7, 1934, in Appleton, MN to Howard and Frances (Perry) Hastings. He went to school and graduated from Appleton High School. Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 17, 1953, and he served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on June 16, 1957.
In 1959, Don was united in marriage to Beatrice Cole at the Dane Street Congregational Church in Beverly Massachusetts. Don and Bea were blessed with two children Judith and Raymond. The couple moved to Deer Creek, MN where they enjoyed their hobby farm for 12 years. They had black and yellow Labrador dogs, cows, and other livestock. They had a huge garden of flowers and vegetables.
Don worked many jobs which included working at a plant nursery and a steel warehouse.
Don loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with hunting, fishing, camping, football, gospel music, country music, and loving and serving his Lord Jesus. Don was active in the National Rife Association and the American Legion.
He was a great husband and enjoyed many fishing and camping experiences with his wife Beatrice.
Donald was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s in Duluth, MN.
Deeply loved, Don’s passing is mourned by his wife of 63 years Beatrice, his children Judith (Robert) Koppendrayger of Big Lake, MN and Raymond Hastings of Minneapolis, MN, his nine grandchildren, his three great-grandchildren, his sister Margaret Reilly of Maple Grove, MN, and his brother Harry Hastings of Brooklyn, MN.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, and two brothers.
