Donald Quale Obituary

Donald Kenneth Quale was born on March 25, 1923 to Ole and Anna (Kvigstad) Quale on the family farm in Rockwood Township, Sebeka, MN. He passed away at the age of 95 on October 14th, 2018 under the wonderful care of St. Joseph’s Hospice and his ‘sweet angels’ at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids.

Donald was the youngest of 11 children. His father passed away when Don was only 9 months old, leaving his eldest brother, John, to act as the head of the family. He attended Country School #42 and then entered high school in Sebeka. With his brothers either married, farming or away fighting in WWII, he took a year off from school to help his mother and brother John run the farm. Returning to school, he graduated from Sebeka in 1942.

After graduation, Don went out to work in the Dakota/Montana oil fields until an oil rig accident forced him to return to Sebeka, securing work at the Land O’Lakes Creamery driving milk trucks to various creameries throughout Central Minnesota. From there he went on to be the local fuel oil man for the Sebeka Co-Op for several years.

During that time, he married Delores Lillquist on June 2, 1962 and always said it was the best $5 he ever spent. He and Delores went on to eventually move back to the family farm and raise feeder pigs. In addition to that, he was a bus driver for the Sebeka School District for 19 years.

After retiring from farming, Don & Delores enjoyed many trips together in their RV visiting places from Alaska to Mexico.

Don was a founding/charter member and the first president of the Trailbreakers Snowmobile Club, a longtime member of the Rod & Gun Club and the Headwaters Good Sam Club. He loved deer hunting (mostly for being in the woods), volunteering at Lake Itasca Pioneer Farmers Grounds and visiting with friends and family.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Anna; brothers: John, Albert (Edith), Selmer (Lu), Melvin (Joan), Carl (Hazel) and Anton; sisters: Cora and Alma Quale; Bertha (Art) Pudas, and Ida (Clarence) Lindeke.

His memory will live on though his loving wife of 56 years, Delores; daughter, Karen (Bruce) Quale Killam; Anton’s wife, Mary Quale; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Per Don’s request, no service will be held. A remembrance time will be held October 27th from 12-2:00 at Hub 71 in Sebeka. Inurnment will be in the family plot at Greenhill Cemetery in Sebeka.
