Donald Hill

Donald Archie Hill was born on March 5, 1935 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  His parents were the late Archie and Helen (Benewitz) Hill.  Don grew up in Brainerd and graduated from Johnson High School in St. Paul with the class of 1953.  He resided at various locations in the Twin Cities where he was employed in sales with the Farm Bureau organization for 20 years. In 1974, Don moved to Bluffton where he purchased the first of three food and liquor establishments.  Over the following 10 years, he and Jan owned Don's Bar of Bluffton, DJs Village Inn of Ottertail and Oakwood Supper Club of Henning.  

On October 11, 1979 Don was united in marriage with Janet Roggenkamp in Wadena, Minnesota.  The Hill Family also resided in Perham and Ottertail and then purchased a dairy farm in Ottertail for seven years. In 1992 Don and Jan made their home in Woodbury where Don was in real estate sales and then became a daycare provider for 15 years until retiring in 2001.  In 2018 Don and Jan returned to the lake to live their dream. He enjoyed walleye fishing and spending quality time with his grandchildren.      

On August 1, 2018 Don passed away at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, Minnesota 83 years of age.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Preceding Don in death were his parents, Archie and Helen.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janet Hill of Ottertail;  6 children:  Debora (Mark) Routhe of Liguna Niguel, California; Linda (Kurt) Hill-Sebesta of Ottertail; Sue Arcand of White Bear Lake; Cindy Bevins of Burnsville; Jerry Hill of Shakopee and Dawn (Jeff) Nelson of Savage;  12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
