Derald John Cordes was born on September 9, 1930 at home in Leaf Lake Township, rural Henning, Minnesota. His parents were the late Herman and Anna (Neels) Cordes. Derald graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1948. He served honorably in the United States Army from January 17, 1951 to January 16, 1954.
Derald resided in North Hollywood, California where he flew freight for commercial airlines. On May 28, 1955 Derald was united in marriage with Doris Mae Ellingson in Los Angeles County, Ventura, California. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Nancy.
In 1963 the Cordes Family made their home in Leaf Lake Township, rural Henning where they farmed. In 1975 they moved to Minneapolis where Derald managed several apartment buildings and then made their home in Stewart, Florida where he was employed at a local liquor store and an airplane mechanic. In 2016, Derald and Doris returned to Minnesota and eventually made their home at Willow Creek. Derald always was fond of the farm, he had a special place in his heart for the boys on the farm and his “superhero”, Jill Doll for being a special part of his life.
On November 26, 2020 Derald passed away at Perham Living in Perham, Minnesota at 90 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Derald was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Anna Cordes; siblings: Lowell Cordes, Merlyn Cordes, Luann Shuchman and Virgil Cordes.
Derald is survived by his wife: Doris; daughter: Nancy (Ken) Moen; 4 grandchildren: Heather (Chad) Liddle; Jeremy (Tori) Gordhamer; Brian (Angel) Moen and Bob (Michelle) Moen; great-grandchildren: Kyle and Kennedy Liddle; Preston and Evie Gordhamer; Oliver Moen and William Moen; brother: Myron (Shirley) Cordes; 2 sisters: Vivian Palm and Caryl Hansen; brother-in-law: Ed Schuchman; sister-in-law: Colleen Cordes; many other relatives and a host of friends.
