Delmer Earl Peterson was born on November 14, 1940 in Leslie Township, Todd County, rural Long Prairie, Minnesota. His parents were the late Harry and Anne (Anderson) Peterson. Delmer grew up on a farm and went to school in Eagle Bend. He later moved to Clarissa where he was employed on different farms until he moved to the Twin Cities to work. Delmer enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 16,1961 where he spent 3 years in England and 9 months in Indiana. On October 24, 1964 Delmer was united in marriage with Marlys Lorraine Moen as they began their life in Peru, Indiana. Delmer was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force on January 15, 1965.
Delmer and Marlys moved back to Minnesota where they raised their family in Wadena and then making their home in St. Cloud. Delmer was truck driver for 40 years, he enjoyed being with his family and relatives and enjoyed the outdoors along with listening to classic country music and watching old westerns. In August of 2009 Marlys passed away. For the last 5 years Delmer has made his home in Wadena.
On August 14, 2020 Delmer passed away peacefully in his apartment in Wadena, Minnesota at 79 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents: Harry and Anne Peterson; wife: Marlys (Moen) Peterson; son: Brian Peterson; brother: David; and sister: Ina.
Delmer is survived by his children: Michele (Peterson) Kako of Wadena; Robert Peterson of Wadena; Kristine Peterson of Sauk Rapids; Sherri Peterson of Sauk Rapids; Bradley (Kari) Peterson of Glenwood; Todd Peterson of Wadena; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Margaret Lowe of Anoka; Devona (Boyd) Berry of Long Prairie; brother, Dennis (Joan) Peterson of Clarissa; many other relatives and a host of friends.
